Dimensions and proportion
Overall length, width and depth, plus the dimensions of any repeated element, with tolerances. A two millimetre variance on a stud earring is a different piece entirely.
Metal, alloy and finish
Base metal, karat or purity, plating type and thickness, and the intended surface finish. High polish, matte, brushed and hammered all read differently under retail lighting.
Stones and settings
Cut, size, quantity, quality grade, and setting method. Prong, bezel, channel and pave carry very different labour costs and very different failure risks.
Findings and assembly
Clasps, jump rings, ear posts, backs and any soldering or riveting instruction. Note which joints are permanent and which are meant to move.
